Working in intervals can be very productive especially in our “over stimulated society” that we live in. Everywhere you look you see advertisers are fighting for our attention and keeping us alert with “24 hr” energy drinks.
This “over stimulated society” that we live in can cause us to lose Focus. When I was a personal trainer I created something called the 20min. rule. We would only spend 20 min. working out and build up to a half hour to a full hour. If I trained people for the full hour they could quickly lose interest and give up.
“Inch by inch life is a cinch; yard by yard life is hard.”
The 20min. rule can also help you increase your focus and defeat procrastination. Overwhelmed by a project, doing taxes or cleaning out the garage? You’re not alone. Just do 20 min. at a time and stop. You’ll find yourself wanting to go back and do more as opposed to being burned out by working 5 hrs. and dreading the work.
“Working 20min. at a time gives you a greater degree of focus because you have limited time. So you tend to prioritize and be more productive.” E. Papp
